As part of its 50 year anniversary but also launch of its first Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) report, the EPFL Tech4Impact initiative is holding an open day for the public on Wednesday, 10 April 2019 at its campus on the outskirts of Lausanne overlooking Lake Geneva. This will highlight eight cutting-edge sustainable research projects. All seek to illustrate the university’s potential to advance the United Nations’ 2030 SDG initiative world-wide.
The projects range from tackling essential technology needs in emerging countries to addressing the global energy concerns of tomorrow. Each of these ‘disruptive’ research initiatives seek to provide innovative technological solutions to the most pressing global challenges of our time. The projects highlight the work of different EPFL professors and their teams from varying disciplines. (See Global Geneva article on EPFL’s Red Sea initiative to save coral reefs).
The Lausanne event, which begins at 1700 hours (5 pm) at the Forum Rolex, will also host an interactive exhibition of the sustainable innovations of 12 EPFL start-ups. All are in support of the political insights and global perspectives of UN Director-General Michael Møller in Geneva and Swiss Ambassador Thomas Gass of the Federal Council in Berne, who will both be appearing at the event. For those who do not know EPFL, this an excellent chance to explore what this world-renowned institute is doing.
